Quicken’s good at this. The best way if you’ve never done a personal budget before is to spend a few weeks tracking the expenses that you have. A sound budget should be a combination of tracking your actual expenses, and identifying some key areas of waste where you can do better.

A good budget should also have a savings plan. Decide in advance how much you will save per week or per month. Don’t waver on this. Stick to your savings goals. One way to do this effectively is to stop and think everytime you get a raise in your wages. If you increase your automatic savings to swallow up the new raise, leaving you with the same net pay as before, will you really miss the difference that is going into savings? Probably not, but the savings will really start to build up this way.

    Here’s how:

    10% – Tithes
    25% – Food
    35% – House Expenses
    10% – Clothing
    15% – Health and Medicine
    05% – Savings

Depends on your preferences, and distribution of amount in needs… Hope this help…
