I’ll be shifting to New York in Dec. I’ve got a job working at State street…

I’m not sure how and where to go about looking for apartments…any advice…and I have a budget of up to $1,600. (I only need a one bedroom apt, in a safe neighbourhood, that’s not too far from work)

Thanks!

me and my 2 friends are planning to all share a flat this year.. could someone with experience in this tell us if it is possible or if we need to budget some more or go for cheaper things?

Beginner advice on house flipping and the market predictions?

budgeting advice
B-More G asked:

I am interested in getting into real-estate in a year or two. I was wondering how long before the current market slump ends (Estimate). Also assuming it makes a speedy recovery what is a good starting budget so I can start saving money. I’m thinking if i get a house that needs just cosmetic work i would need around $20,000. Also is Baltimore a good market to start in, or the suburbs of Baltimore?

I need some advice about apartment hunting & budgeting. Anyone have some advice?

budgeting advice
Jason P asked:

I’m thinking about moving out of my parent’s house and renting an apartment. Currently, I’m making $13 an hour before taxes, though that may be going up a little soon. I am working in Madison, Wisconsin, though currently I am living about 60 miles away and commuting each day. Obviously, the gas costs are big and as they continue to go up, it won’t be long before it is not feasible at all.

I have to pay about $260 a month for student loan payments, will be paying about $50 a month for a cell phone, and will be taking on my own car insurance soon, though I don’t know how much that will be yet. I would probably also want at least basic cable and internet access in an apartment.

I also need to know how to search for an apartment. I lived on campus when I went to college in Green Bay, so I didn’t have to worry about searching. What is an acceptable amount to be paying monthly, especially since I will probably be living by myself?

Can anyone give me advice about using a rental company to find a rental house?

budgeting advice
kittyrap asked:

I am a single mother, and I am on a VERY limited budget and am trying to decide the best course to take. In my area we have a company called HELP-U-RENT where you pay a company to find you a house for rent within your means. Most ads I have seen for this company the houses and prices described sound great…. a little too great. Has anyone ever used this company or a similar company? Any advice on the matter would be most appreciated. Oh, and another thing that sounded great about this company is they deal with people with bad credit, which I would fall into that catagory.

Trying to be a first time homeowner – any advice before I sign?

budgeting advice
amyvnsn asked:

I’m not there yet, but I plan to be ready in March of 08 to buy my first house. I’ve taken 15 hours of credit classes, I have $5k saved up, and I’m trying to get down payment assistance. Does anyone have any additional advice like unexpected costs (besides closing costs) and surprises that maybe happened to you when you bought your first house? I know to stay in my budget and not buy something I really can’t afford. But for instance, do I find a lender first and then a house, or is it vice versa? And after I find a house and a lender, how long does it take to close? Is it stressful getting all your paperwork together?

We’ve looking for a home – budgeting?

budgeting
cobillman07 asked:

We’ve started our search for our first home and we’re really excited. I’ve also been working on our new budget because so many things have changed in the past two months. I would really like to figure out what we could afford in mortgage wise. We’ve been approved for $115,000. I also wanted to know how I could find out an estimate for what we would be paying for water, sewer and trash because we haven’t been paying that at our apartment.

budgeting for home owner association fee?

budgeting
tinaroonie asked:

I am looking into buying either a townhouse or a condo, and I know they come with association fees. In my area they usually run from $150 to $250 per month. I’ve asked a few questions on here already about buying a home, and I was told that when I get a mortgage I should make sure that it includes property taxes and homeowners insurance. Can that mortgage also include association fees? Or is that completely separate? I’m just thinking that having to budget for the association fees would reduce the amount I can afford to pay for a condo or townhouse. Another question, how can I figure out how much heat will cost me each winter? I’ve heard most condo associations in my area cost more, but include heat, whereas with a townhouse it costs less, but doesn’t include heat. I’d rather have a townhouse, but will the cost of heat and association fees put that out of my reach??
