Any Disney budget-friendly advice and recommendations?

budgeting advice
Dr. Blue Frog, PhD asked:

So with the economy tanking as it has, we have pushed our original plans to go to Disney for a week this year to next year. Our budget is about $3000 to include gas to & from Orlando (we’re driving from Ohio), lodging, attraction tickets, meals, & spending money. We are well aware that almost a 1/3 of our budget will be spent on attraction tickets.

As it stands right now, we are definitely wanting to go during the “off peak” season (I would prefer the end of Nov/beginning of Dec so we can see all the holiday festivities, however my husband wants sometime in Sept to take advantage of the still warm weather). Our biggest hurdle is deciding between staying at an on-site resort, off-site hotel, or renting a condo/home when there’s just the 3 of us. So I guess I’m looking for advice from people who have gone on a budget and what they chose. Where did you stay? Would you stay there again? What were your likes/dislikes of where you stayed? Is staying on-site and taking advantage of the dining plan really worth it? What is one thing we should definitely splurge on? What should we avoid?

Any and all help is welcome!
kapn, while I agree that visiting national parks is a great way to spend a vacation since we’ve visited Gettysburg, Yellowstone, Acadia, Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, Grand Canyon, Teton, Great Smokey’s & Mt. Rushmore over the past couple of years and we’re looking for something different. My daughter will be 7 when we go and she quite frankly wants a vacation where the fun is thrown at her…..But thank you for your input.

I’ll be shifting to New York in Dec. I’ve got a job working at State street…

I’m not sure how and where to go about looking for apartments…any advice…and I have a budget of up to $1,600. (I only need a one bedroom apt, in a safe neighbourhood, that’s not too far from work)

Thanks!

budgeting advice
Dreamin asked:

I’m going with my boyfriend, we are on a pretty low budget so not planning on splashing out on shopping but would love to see as many cultural sites as we can fit in.

So mostly interested in art galleries, museums and also thinking of renting some bikes.

If you have been before it would be great to know what you would recommend!

me and my 2 friends are planning to all share a flat this year.. could someone with experience in this tell us if it is possible or if we need to budget some more or go for cheaper things?
