Personal Expense / Budget Software?

personal budgeting
blondewithheart asked:

I am recently married and trying to get a better handle on our finances. I know you can use excel, but I need a place to organize and remind me of bills/payments, keep track of our accounts and manage our budget. I want something relatively easy to use- but I used to do accounting work and would like something that will keep good records of our expenses and where the money is going. We’re still ‘getting started’ in our life, so we don’t need a super detailed program to keep track of our retirement funds etc- Any suggestions?

Can someone help justify why I should have a computer at work, rather than bring my own personal laptop?

personal budgeting
Donster asked:

Here’s the deal. I am in a newly created position where I work out of a satelite office. I bring my personal laptop to work, as my position entails MANY duties with a computer that would take too long to explain– letters, fliers, posters, email, research, etc. Our school director at first said I could come to the school once in a while to do computer work, which is just CRAZY. So, until they could justify the budget, I said I’d bring my own from home.

Now that I have been in this position six months and have shown the need for it– I brought it up again. How silly is this for crying out loud– I have to make a list of 20 reasons to justify the need for a computer. Are you kidding me? At any rate, I have listed my specific things I do on the computer….. I am looking for some other answers– such as any laws about personal computers containing company info (do I own it?), etc. Things that will wow them.

Thanks so much!!
Someone answered and said I needed to build trust and they must have misunderstood- I am just in a new POSITION– I’ve been with the company five years. Also, I am not asking for a laptop, just a desktop to stay at the office I work out of. I am already linked to this agencie’s wi-fi and have access to the Internet and printers….
Also, I am not plugging into a system– I work for a school out of a satelite office space we rent at an employment agency. I print all my own things, as well as just email things to my director for approval– I would not be on a network– I just need a stand-alone computer. ; )

Can someone help my with my personal budget please?

personal budgeting
Caboman asked:

My take home pay is $6,150 and have a wife, 3 kids and a mortgage. 5 years ago, with a smaller house and a smaller house payment, we were all living on $2,500/month. Now that I have increased my pay, increased the size of my house, etc., we are having trouble living on $6,000.

My mortgage, utilities and permanent house expenses are about $2,600 (all utilities, mortgage, HOA dues, not including extra maintenance costs) and my kid costs, private school, food (not dining out), pets and life insruance/medical/personal care add up to about $1,400. Plus, I estimate about $500/month for automotive maintenance and gas. That should leave $1,500 or more at the end of the month for investing, savings, retirement, and discretionary spending.

Also to note, I have no car payment, no credit card debt, or any other debt of any kind, only the mortgage.

But somehow, I end up at the end of the month with nothing. Between my wife spending cash on who-knows-what, needing to spend $100 here and $100 there to have fun, buy the latest jeans, etc. I end up with nothing.

This is very discouraging. Does anyone have any advice to lower descretionary spending, increasing savings, etc.? I am making more money than I ever have, and yet I can save a dime. Can anyone help?

-RESPs

and tips on to make the most of your money and make it last.

THE BOOK MUST BE IN FRENCH!!!!

** The book I’m looking for is for a recent widow who’s husband was the one taking care of the finances. I want to find a book for her so that she can know more of what is out there. What to watch out for and how to be more financialy independant and financialy wise.

Do you have a monthly personal budget? If so, how much is it?

personal budgeting
Conversation asked:

For the first time in years I created a monthly budget. I figured out to the dollar how much I spend on fixed and optional expenses. I came up with a figure of $2450 a month. This includes Mortgage, Gasoline, food, utilities, travel, entertainment and all my other expenses. My biggest expense is mortgage which is $1175 a month.

Do you have a budget and know how much you spend each month. How much is it?
